AS crowds thronged Ocean Terminal there was no chance of Forth One's ten model finalists going unnoticed.
As the make-up artists put their finishing touches to the finalists, the tension mounted. No longer was it about having fun – these finalists were in it to win it.After a widespread search, it came down to the final few – the best-looking men and women in the Capital. Beating off competition from the masses, they became ten of the hottest men and women in the Lothians. Then it was time to fight it out for the inaugural crown for Cover Guy & Cover Girl 2008. After an evening of high drama, the lucky winners were named as Johnny Porter and Emily Munro, to the delight of the crowds.Their prize includes a year-long contract with The Look Models agency and the winners' first major photo shoot is already scheduled for Scottish glossy No.1 Magazine. From the hoards who applied, 26 female and 13 male semi-finalists were chosen and then just ten were short-listed for the final. It came down to 22-year-old mum Emily Munro, a student nurse from Craigentinny, whose five-year-old son Dylan cheered his mum the whole way through. There was also Kim Munro, 19, another student nurse from Kinghorn; Jane Blackhall, 19, a student from Colinton; Julie Cobb, 25, a trainee solicitor from Marchmont, and Marisa McGarry, 20, a student from Leith. For the men there was Philip Keirnan, 26, a cabinet maker from Dalkeith; Christopher Anderson, 18, an apprentice welder from Tranent; Marty Waddell, 22, a fitness instructor from Roslyn; Barry McGuigan, 29, an active schools coordinator from South Queensferry; and Johnny Porter, 25, a bar manager, originally from Markinch. With hundreds of spectators, the pressure was on but the final ten worked their way through their costume changes with ease. The standard was high – so high that the judges were stuck up until the last minute. "It was really tough," admitted a spokeswoman for The Look Models. "Emily needs some more work but her bone structure and her body is amazing. I do love Marisa too, but then there is Jane who is gorgeous.""Johnny has a really good physique," added Forth One's Jill McLaren. "He really carried himself well. Emily has a great editorial look and could carry off a number of different looks. "It was very, very tough. Everyone had their own plus points." No.1 editor Nadine Hawkins agreed. "Everyone was a really strong contender. I'm so impressed by the standard. East coast is so much better in terms of looks."After much deliberation the winners were chosen – Johnny Porter and Emily Munro – bringing screams from the crowd."It's pretty overwhelming," laughed Johnny, from the city centre. "I didn't expect it at all. I loved the show, loved the catwalk but thought that was it. I am just overwhelmed."Emily agreed, and added: "I feel amazing. I've done no modelling before. It's so overwhelming. My little boy Dylan is so happy."Judge Jill McLaren said: "It was pretty overwhelming to see them all up on stage – what a great achievement."
